July Inquiry Topics and Themes

Now available for members

Lots of schools are planning inquiry units on the Commonwealth Games in India this term. Members can find many web links to learn about India the country and the Games in Delhi, plus ideas for planning an inquiry unit of work.

Some members have asked for a unit on Australia, so we have included links to maps, money, famous places, people, Aboriginal and Aussie culture and icons.

One Australian icon is The Royal Show. For those of you overseas these were started as agricultural shows to bring the country to the city. They are held in most Australian states, some even have a student free school day to attend! Since their inception they now include fun fairs, food and the traditional showbags of goodies. These were often free to begin with to advertise products. While a few show bags remain this way, most are now sold. Many Australian schools make their own show bags and add items as part of their technology and art programs. My students have added all sorts of things over the years. We even sold some to other students to raise money for a charity.

See our playbox label on the Royal Show this month.

Australian Animals is always a popular topic to cover. With such a huge range of sites this is a separate inquiry unit.
